How to create shortcuts in KDE

In the example below we will make a shortcut for TkSesh. You can do this with KMenuEdit. If you don't find an entry for KMenuEdit, type:

kmenuedit

in a terminal window. This will open the KDE menu editor.

  • Click on "New item". A dialog box will appear asking you for the item name:

  • After you entered the name, you can enter all other info by selecting the item in the menu:

  • To choose an icon, click on the empty square next to the "Name" and "Description" fields. Normally you can then select the icon; in this case, however, the icon is in another format, so we just type the full path to it. After clicking "OK" the icon will be used.

  • That's it! Now you can go to the KDE menu and click the new item.
